2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 in Mount Horeb, WI
The full-size Silverado 1500 pickup truck arrives for the 2022 model year with some significant updates inside and out. The LT and up have big changes in the cabin, and there's a new ZR2 off-road trim in the lineup. Other updates include making GM's Super Cruise system available in the High Country, and the four-cylinder engine gets a boost in torque.
Trim Levels
The 2022 Silverado lineup starts with the WT, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss. Up next, you can choose the LT, RST, or LT Trail Boss. The LTZ, ZR2, and the High Country round out the 2022 lineup. Chevy will offer the Multi-Flex tailgate that configures up to six different ways, and the new 1500 will come with a redesigned grille, updated headlights, and new wheel designs. The top-level High Country has more chrome trim elements in the grille and has 22-inch wheels. There's also a new ZR2 in the lineup. It has black 18-inch wheels, 33-inch all-terrain tires, red recovery hooks, and a high-approach front bumper.
Engine
Chevy will offer the 2022 Silverado 1500 with four engine choices. The base is a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder that puts out 310 horsepower and now gets 420 pound-feet of torque. A 5.3-liter V-8 for select models delivers 355 horsepower, and the ZR2 comes with a 6.2-liter V-8 that makes 420 horsepower. The turbodiesel in the lineup is a 3.0-liter Duramax that makes 277 horsepower and generates 460 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The Duramax can tow up to 13,300 pounds, making it the most capable hauler in the lineup and topping other half-ton trucks by 550 pounds. The 5.3-liter is still strong and can tow up to 11,500 pounds, and if you have the new turbo four-cylinder, it can pull 9,500 pounds.
Interior
You'll get a new interior design in the Silverado LT models and above. These have a redesigned center console, new seats, and upgraded materials. The High Country gets open-pore wood trim and stainless steel speaker grilles. Additional changes in the Silverado's cabin include an electronic transmission range selector and an updated look for the front dash.
There's lots of new tech in this Silverado. Drivers will have a 12.3-inch configurable digital gauge cluster in front of them, and the dash has a new 13.4-inch touch screen. The updated infotainment system comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google voice assistant, Google maps, and the Google app store.
Safety Features
The big news for the 2022 Silverado's safety upgrades is the availability of Super Cruise for the High Country. This is Chevy's hands-free driving system. It works on certain highways across the United States and allows for semi-autonomous driving. But this is not the only safety upgrade. All Silverados now come standard with Chevy Safety Assist. This group of driver aids includes lane-keep assist, automatic braking, following distance indicator, automatic high beam headlights, and lane-departure warning. You can also get Chevy's Advanced Trailering System. This package is a surround-view camera system with several different camera views to help make it easier and safer to hook up a trailer and help the driver monitor the trailer's brake lights, tire pressure, and more.
