Trim Levels
The 2021 Chevy Malibu is available in five trim levels — the L, LS, RS, LT, and Premier — with increasing levels of luxury as you move up the lineup. On the L and the LS, you'll find 16-inch aluminum wheels, automatic on/off headlamps, and power outside mirrors. The RS is the median trim and offers 18-inch aluminum wheels, a black grille with chrome surround, and black bow tie badging. The LT features 17-inch aluminum wheels, LED taillamps, and all-season tires. Lastly, the Malibu Premier comes with 19-inch aluminum wheels, a dual-pane power sunroof, and an available rear spoiler.
Engine
You'll find two engine options on this year's Malibu. The first is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. There's also a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that supplies 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Further, the mid-size family car returns up to 36 mpg on the highway thanks to fuel-saving features like the start/stop technology.
Performance
There are several performance-enhancing features on board for better handling and driving experience. The front-wheel-drive system combines with the Stabilitrak electronic stability control system to help you maintain better control in various weather conditions such as snow. A nine-speed automatic transmission on the higher trim levels or the standard continuously variable transmission on the lower variants provides a smooth-shifting ride. You'll also find available enhanced automatic emergency braking and standard electronic grade braking on select trims.
Interior
The classic design of the Malibu remains but has been updated with premium interior and advanced technology. Inside the L and the LS, you'll find an 8-inch touch-screen display, single-zone manual air conditioning, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The RS offers 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot capability, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and premium cloth seating. Opt for the LT for features like dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a remote start system that allows you to start your Malibu from the comfort of your living room. The top-of-the-line Premier comes with the Chevy Infotainment 3 system featuring an 8-inch screen and built-in navigation system, a wireless charging system, and perforated leather-appointed seating.
Safety Features
The midsize sedan gains various safety and driver assistance features to keep you and your passengers safe on the road. The Buckle to Drive feature on the top four trims prevents the Malibu from shifting from Park until you've fastened the driver's seat belt. Available safety features include a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, and lane change alert with side blind zone alert. A lane keep assist with lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist are available on certain models.
